Posts for tag: Foot Bone Injury

For all you runners out there I’m sure you’ve heard of barefoot running and may have been thinking about trying it. People who run barefoot swear by it and say it’s so much better than running with actual running shoes and that it promotes a healthier lifestyle. A majority of people who barefoot run don’t actually run barefoot; they wear those “shoes” that look like toe socks, you all know what I’m talking about.

If you’re a runner you’ve either experienced a running related injury or you know someone who has, and I’m sure you or your friend were wearing running shoes. So should you make the switch to barefoot running to try and prevent these injuries? A study published in the Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise journal produced results that over a 10 week period 10 out of 19 barefoot runners who wore those toe socks looking shoes showed signs of bone injury, whereas only 1 out of 17 runners who wore running shoes showed signs of injury. Now I’m sure it’s pretty obvious but having a foot bone injury makes it pretty difficult to run and have a healthier lifestyle.

When it comes to being active it is always best to find the things that work best for you! But it is also important to watch and maintain the health of your feet so you can continue to be active and healthy. If you do decide to try something new, like barefoot running, and start to experience any foot pain be sure to make an appointment with your local podiatristat Affiliated Foot and Ankle Care in Edison and Monroe NJ! They can help you prevent a serious injury and give some recommendations for what shoes would best suit your foot type.
