When I think of plantar warts, the first thing coming to mind is, plantar warts are more common than you think.  If you haven’t dealt with them yourself, it’s likely you know someone or family members who have tried self-treatment or have actually gone to their local podiatrist for removal treatment. Plantar warts are usually located in areas of pressure and friction, they manifest themselves as hard fleshy growths on the bottom of the foot and sometimes they can be irritating or painful. Unfortunately plantar warts easily spread as it is a subtype of human papillomavirus (HPV).  Plantar warts are no respecter of age, although they are most commonly found among 12-16 year olds. People with weakened immune systems, skin trauma, or exposure to public showers are more likely to be afflicted with foot warts.

The scope of treatment here at Affiliated Foot and Ankle Care for plantar warts is enough to comprehensibly meet the variation and degree of the wart you may have. Some plantar warts are taken care of in a one stop shop so to speak, where a mild acid is applied topically to burn off the plantar wart, where other cases may require surgery, or follow up appointments. Laser treatment, cryotherapy (freezing wart with liquid nitrogen) or leucoplast tape and prescription Upton paste. Tape and paste is applied on a daily basis for a week, followed by a shaving procedure, and then concluded with one more series of tape and paste until wart is gone. Sometimes warts return and one single treatment has not become the end all, fix all.  Individual immunities, the body’s ability to identify the wart virus as problematic, and then the body’s ability create an immune response to the virus are all factors to the effectiveness of Plantar wart virus elimination. If you have any questions about Plantar Warts or would like more information please make an appointment to see one of our podiatrist at Affiliated Foot and Ankle Care located in Edison and Monroe, NJ.
